Project Management Capstone
SEMESTER 1 2015
ASSIGNMENT No 4A BRIEF (15%)
Due Midnight Sunday – End of Week 9
Note: This brief contains the information required to complete Assignment 4Afor this unit.
AIM OF THE UNIT & ASSIGNMENTS
The Project Management Capstone will enable students to consolidate and coordinate their learning from previous units in the course to bring them together in a series of submission based around a single project.
Capstones are an effective learning tool that are the result of a set of personal and academic experiences at the end of such a program of study to bring all learning within a program of study together and provide a single opportunity through which a student demonstrates accomplishment of program learning objectives.
A Capstone is “the crowning achievement in a student’s academic curriculum” and therefore needs sufficient prior learning upon which the capstone can be built. A ‘true’ capstone is one where students have acquired all knowledge before starting the capstone. Therefore capstones are situated near the end of a program of study. Capstones provide an opportunity to assess what students have learnt in an educational program and how effectively they can apply what they have learnt. A capstone provides a student centred, self-directed, independent learning experience.

Assignment 4A – REQUIREMENTS
Case Study -DueWeek9 (Sunday – Midnight) (15%)
NB: Case Study 4A has 2 sub-sections:
In 250-500 words, list briefly TWO (2) separate diverse pieces of evidence of project management good-practice or problems within the case study for each of any FIVE (5) of the following nine (9) project management processes: Integration; Scope; Time; Cost; Quality; Human Resource ; Communication ; Procurement ; Risk
So, you are limited to 2 examples for each of 5 project management processes i.e. 10 examples. The aim is for you to forensically analyse the case study and identify and record what project management good-practice/problems exist. This should engender an integrative awareness of the many project management processes that occur in one project. An example of the style of answer is:
Select TWO examples from 2 different processes of good-practice/problems from your answer in Sub-section 1. For each of these two examples:
1. Briefly describe in 100 – 250 words for each process, what the good-practice /problem is
2. Analyse in 800 – 1200 words each:
a. If it was a good-practice, explain why it is good practice;
b. If it was a problem, suggest what should have been done;
To support your answers for each example, you must refer to at least two academic references (your lecture notes would be a good place to start, but you should search Gecko, & Google Scholar) (800-1200 words for each good-practice problem).
